Minecraft Dungeons II Release Date

Minecraft Dungeons II is out now. The sequel launched worldwide on September 29, 2026, arriving on every announced platform on the same day — PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 — with no staggered rollout, no early-unlock tier and no platform left waiting behind the others. Minecraft Dungeons II Platforms players who subscribe to Game Pass could start playing on launch day too, since the game joined the service from day one.

How the date was announced

The road to the launch date was a long one, stretching back more than a year before release. The project first surfaced in March 2025, when it leaked under the codename Project Spicewood — an internal Mojang name that never referred to a region, a separate game or anything in the game itself. That name still shows up in official minecraft.net asset paths, which is why it keeps circulating.

The real title, Minecraft Dungeons II, was revealed at Minecraft Live in March 2026. From there it took only a few more months for the date to land: at the June 2026 Xbox Games Showcase, Mojang set the release date as September 29, 2026. Once announced, the date never moved. If you see anything quoting 2025 or 2027, it predates the real announcement and is simply out of date.

What launch day looked like

Launch was a single global moment rather than a rolling one. Every platform — Steam and the Microsoft Store on PC, the Xbox Store, the PlayStation Store and the Nintendo eShop for both Switch generations — opened access on September 29, 2026. The console listing from Hong Kong lays out how the hours around launch worked there: pre-orders could be redeemed and pre-downloaded from September 24 at 16:00 HKT, and the game itself became playable on September 29 at 16:00 HKT, with other regions unlocking at their local midnight equivalents per storefront.

On the pre-order side, the bonuses that came with pre-ordering either edition had a firm cutoff. The Hong Kong listing set it at 15:59 HKT on launch day — pre-order bonuses had to be redeemed before that moment to be kept. This matters for anyone who bought late: the Twisted Cape, the Twisted Chicken pet and the two extra hero skins are treated as launch-window exclusives, and no later route to them has been announced, though some storefronts keep their redemption windows open briefly after launch.

Missed the pre-order bonuses?

The pre-order extras were three things: the Twisted Cape (a cape that works in Dungeons II and also carries into Bedrock and Java, according to launch-window coverage), the Twisted Chicken pet (the glowing chicken companion visible in official store screenshots) and two extra hero skins — the official artwork shows Alex- and Steve-themed outfits among them. See the Minecraft Dungeons II Editions page for the full breakdown of what came with each version.

If you did not pre-order, the standard and deluxe editions themselves are unchanged: Minecraft Dungeons II Price stayed at $29.99 for Standard and $49.99 for Deluxe after launch, and everything playable — the campaign, The Sift, Minecraft Dungeons II Multiplayer Guide co-op — is in the box regardless of when you buy.

FAQ

Did the release date ever change? No. The September 29, 2026 date was set at the June 2026 Xbox Games Showcase and never shifted.

Is "Dungeons 2" the same game? Yes. The store title is "Minecraft Dungeons II" with Roman numerals; "Dungeons 2" is just a common search spelling for the same game.
