Howling Woods

Howling Woods is a level 6 Overworld region in Minecraft Dungeons II, a dark forest where the mob mix shifts from illagers to crawlers and the undead. It sits between Honeycomb Fields (level 2) and The Deep Dark (level 14) on the journey, and it packs four distinct places into its borders — more than any region before it — including a boss arena.
Mobs
The woods belong to the crawlers:
- Spiders (15 HP) — fast melee skitterers that swarm in packs.
- Slimes (6 HP) — weak individually, annoying in numbers.
- Skeletons (7 HP) — the region's ranged backbone.
- Zombies (8 HP) — melee filler, with the usual tougher variants (12, 36 and 52 HP) at higher difficulties.
Lightning is the standout counter here: cave spiders take +100% damage from lightning, though they resist poison (-50%), so check the Damage Matchups before committing to a poison build in this region.
Places of interest
Spider Caves
The Spider Caves are exactly what the name promises — a nest packed with Slimes, Spiders, Cave Spiders (15 HP) and Spider Jockeys (32 HP). Bring area damage and something for the webs.
Lush Caves
The Lush Caves hide the region's biggest threat: Mosstrosity, the 2,400 HP boss that closes out the game's boss story order. A boss arena inside a level 6 region makes the Lush Caves a landmark fight — come prepared with your best single-target damage and a plan for its charges.
Wishing Well
The Wishing Well is listed with no hostile mobs attached, a quiet landmark in the woods. Places like this are worth checking for chests and secrets rather than fights.
Witch's Hut
The Witch's Hut likewise lists no mobs — a hut in the woods with an evocative name. Given that the Soul Corrupted Witch (1,200 HP) opens the game's boss story order, the name alone makes it a place of interest for lore-minded explorers.
Loot and chests
Each place page records its doors and when they open, what is fought inside and how many chests it holds, so scout the entries before a run. Region-wide, the loot table follows the standard pattern — common gear rolls no effects, rare rolls one, special rolls two, with tiers scaling by threat level — and the woods' level 6 baseline means noticeably stronger drops than the fields behind you.
Related regions
- Honeycomb Fields — the level 2 region before it.
- The Deep Dark — the level 14 region that follows.
- Ravines — a dungeon whose boss, Monarch — Minecraft Dungeons II Boss Guide, echoes the woods' monstrosity theme.
