Player approach
The Horde Rides West requires defeating the Russians and Khwarazm while keeping Subotai alive. The Merkids can become a resource ally, but their camp should be defended before its surrender is triggered.
Step-by-step plan
Establish the economy and keep Subotai behind the main force. Scout the Russian Castle and use siege with a field army to make them resign, while preparing a separate force for Samarkand. Deliver the Trade Carts before the Persians react to a delay. Avoid sending units into Samarkand until ready to defend the Merkid camp, then use its buildings and tribute to strengthen the final push.
Risks and adjustments
Subotai’s death is an immediate loss, and the Merkids can be exposed by an early trigger. Protect the hero and do not let the Trade Carts linger on an unsafe route.
