The Protectorate

Tamar intervenes when Turkoman forces seize Shamkor, a city belonging to her protectorate of Shirvan. Capture Shamkor’s districts to strengthen Shirvan and its tribute, then defeat the Turkomans and respond when Yury joins the conflict.

Overview

Player approach

The Protectorate starts without Villager production, but liberating Shamkor and taking Villagers from the Turkoman countryside can create a working economy. Build around a focused Monaspa force and respond to announced attacks.

Step-by-step plan

Upgrade the cavalry line and build toward a concentrated group of Monaspas before crossing the southern bridges. Use the starting Monks and Relics to support the first village capture, while carefully converting isolated Steppe Lancers without allowing them to kite the Monks into danger. Clear the quiet Shamkor countryside, then raid the northwest Turkoman base to gain access to its Villagers and expand the economy. Keep the main army focused so it can respond quickly when Turkoman or Yury attacks are announced.

Risks and adjustments

The opening economy cannot replace Villagers until a suitable settlement is captured. Do not split the Monaspa group too widely or leave the Monks exposed during conversions. Attack warnings provide only a brief reaction window, so maintain a reserve near the base.
