Balancing map expansion and defense
New resource sites grow the economy but add territory that needs protection.

Overview
New resource sites grow the economy but add territory that needs protection.
Plan and execution
Scout candidate sites, prioritize resources needed next, connect them to safe routes, and cover exposed workers with vision or mobile units. Expand in stages.
Risks and adaptation
A small raiding force can deny distant expansion. Consolidate or contest a route if the area becomes unsafe. Open another site only when workers can reach it and a mobile force can answer a raid. Consolidate around a Town Center or Castle if defending every camp would split the army too thinly.
Decision example
Before taking an outside gold mine or building a second Town Center, estimate how quickly reinforcements can reach it. A new camp should be within vision of a mobile defender or a structure that can shelter workers. Keep the main army near the resource that matters most, but do not abandon every other approach. If the opponent pushes elsewhere, move vulnerable Villagers to a safe site and return after the attack rather than sacrificing them to keep an expansion active.
