Overview

Advance when the next Age unlocks a unit, upgrade, building, or objective that improves the current position.

Plan and execution

Check army safety, resources, and the benefit of arriving first. Prepare workers for intended production during the advance, then scout and act promptly.

Risks and adaptation

Advancing without a follow-up leaves resources idle; waiting too long concedes initiative. Compare both players’ gains. Prepare production, rally points, and the first research during the advance. If the opponent attacks, delay optional spending until the base is stable instead of reaching the new Age without a defense.

Decision example

An Age advance is a purchase of future options and temporary lost Town Center production. Before clicking, decide what building, unit upgrade, or economy change will use the arrival timing. Keep enough food or gold in reserve for the first relevant research and enough defense to survive while the Town Center is busy. If the opponent is attacking now, a few units or a repair may preserve more value than reaching the next Age with an empty base.
