Overview

Comitatenses strengthens several Roman core units and helps reduce production bottlenecks, making it most effective when the economy can maintain the affected lines together. Use its benefits to sustain a coordinated Imperial Age army.

Plan and execution

Plan production around the Roman units you can support: use Legionaries as the durable infantry core, Centurions to improve nearby cavalry effectiveness, and Cavaliers for mobile pressure and flanking. Research Comitatenses when additional training speed and the relevant combat effects will translate into a continuous army, then rally units to one front rather than spending resources on separate, understrength groups. Keep Scorpions or other support behind the screen where the matchup calls for it.

Risks and adaptation

The technology does not make Romans’ cavalry automatically win against every specialist counter, and faster production is wasted if the economy cannot afford continuous queues. Prioritize the line that answers the opponent’s army and avoid overextending Centurions away from the troops that benefit from their support.
