Overview

Crenellations turns a well-positioned Castle into a stronger area-control anchor, extending its range and allowing garrisoned infantry to add defensive fire. Build overlapping coverage where you need to hold a route or protect a concentrated economy.

Plan and execution

Place the Castle to cover a critical crossing, production area, or neighboring defensive position, then garrison infantry when an attack approaches. With Teuton upgrades, the extra range can contest some long-range threats and overlapping Castles can protect each other; use infantry garrisons to strengthen their fire while keeping a mobile force ready beyond the Castle’s reach. Pair the static defense with scouting and a response group so attackers cannot simply move to an unguarded side.

Risks and adaptation

Long-range siege can still outrange a Castle, and infantry garrison fire is limited. Do not spend on the technology when the opponent can comfortably attack elsewhere or when a few mobile units would protect the same route more cheaply. Repair and screen the Castle against siege instead of relying on range alone.
