Overview

Prioritize upgrades that benefit the army you can field and help it survive the current matchup.

Plan and execution

Identify the core unit line, research its useful upgrade, and confirm civilization access in the technology tree. Add secondary technologies when resources allow.

Risks and adaptation

Late research after an army is lost has little immediate value. Keep production active and connect each upgrade to a plan.

Decision example

A strong Imperial arrival is planned before the age-up finishes: the core army should be alive, production buildings ready, and resources reserved for the first relevant upgrade. Check the civilization tree for the exact unit and Blacksmith research available. Upgrade the line already on the field before adding a second expensive line, unless scouting reveals an immediate counter that must be answered. A technology with no units to benefit from it delays replacement troops and can lose the timing window.
