Kamandaran lets Persian Crossbowmen shift to a wood-centered cost, giving the civilization a ranged support line that can complement its food- and gold-heavy elephants. Research it before scaling Crossbow production.
Plan and execution
When planning a War Elephant army, research Kamandaran before producing a large Crossbow mass so the new units draw less on the resources needed for elephants. Use Crossbowmen to pressure infantry, Pikemen, and Monks while the elephants absorb frontline attention. Keep the army together and add other support for siege or ranged counters that the Crossbow line cannot handle.
Risks and adaptation
Persian Crossbowmen lack the final archer upgrades available to some civilizations, so the cheaper cost does not make them a complete answer to every ranged army. Protect them from cavalry and preserve food and gold for the core elephant force.
