Lowland valley-expansion defense

Lowland places starting Town Centers on elevated ground above a resource-rich valley. Gold and Stone are scarce near the starts, so the low ground becomes a valuable but exposed expansion area.

Overview

Lowland places starting Town Centers on elevated ground above a resource-rich valley. Gold and Stone are scarce near the starts, so the low ground becomes a valuable but exposed expansion area.

Plan and execution

Use the high ground to secure the opening, then scout the valley and claim one mine route at a time. Escort the Villagers who build forward mining camps and use an Outpost or defensive units to watch the approach from the opponent’s side. Keep the main army positioned to reinforce the valley without abandoning the Town Center.

Risks and adaptation

A rushed expansion can lose Villagers and leave the base undefended. Do not send every worker downhill before locating the nearby routes, and avoid a long fight for a mine your army cannot hold.
