GUIDE · BATTLE STRATEGY
Men-at-Arms into Archers
Pair an early melee threat with ranged follow-up that remains useful into later Ages.

Overview
Pair an early melee threat with ranged follow-up that remains useful into later Ages.
Plan and execution
Research the Militia upgrade before attacking. Men-at-Arms test walls and exposed resources while an Archery Range produces units behind their screen. Keep the force grouped under defensive fire.
Risks and adaptation
The plan uses several resources and can be answered by Spearmen plus Skirmishers. Scout, add the relevant answer, or stop production and advance.
Decision example
Start training Militia before the Feudal Age so the upgrade can turn them into an immediate threat. While that group travels, place an Archery Range at home and keep enough wood for Houses and an additional Farm. The melee force should draw attention to a woodline or wall, not die under the Town Center. Bring the first Archers behind it only when there is room to fire safely. If the opponent responds with Skirmishers, preserve the ranged group for a later Crossbow upgrade and add a unit that can remove the counter.
