Overview
Mongols: Scout early and prioritize hunt to turn the civilization’s food bonus into a fast Feudal attack. Scouts can lead into Mangudai, Cavalry Archers, or siege depending on the map and opponent.
Opening decision and first timing
Faster hunting can accelerate the first age transition if hunt is close enough to gather safely. Spend that timing on a clear Scout Cavalry plan, then preserve mobile units when walls or Spearmen stop a raid. Keep scouting the next food source before the early hunt runs out.
Composition, counters, and transition
Mangudai and Cavalry Archers can fight while repositioning, but they need a protected production base and upgrades before becoming the entire army. Later mounted hit point bonuses improve survivability; siege gains speed with Drill when a push must cross the map or break defenses. Use a front line or mobile screen so enemy units cannot reach the ranged cavalry and siege together.
Opening priorities
Scout early and prioritize hunt to turn the civilization’s food bonus into a fast Feudal attack.
Core army
Scouts can lead into Mangudai, Cavalry Archers, or siege depending on the map and opponent.
Technology & transition
Keep mobile pressure active while building an economy that can sustain the Castle Age transition.
Watch for
Early strength does not guarantee a late-game edge; avoid passive play that lets the opponent complete a stronger composition.
