Opening decision and first timing
Faster building can shorten construction windows for military structures, towers, and Castles, but the opening still needs food and scouting. The lack of a strong foot-archer upgrade path makes a long Archer plan risky; preserve enough defense while preparing the mounted or gunpowder transition. Gold gained from research is a supplement, not a replacement for mining.
Composition, counters, and transition
Conquistadors can deliver mobile ranged pressure from a Castle, while Missionaries support conversions and healing on the move. Blacksmith upgrades without a gold cost let melee or cavalry research fit more easily into a gold-intensive army. In the Imperial Age, faster gunpowder fire and naval options widen the attack, but escort Bombard Cannons and protect the economy that funds replacements.
