CAMPAIGN · THE LAST KHANS
The Battle at the Kalka River
After the defeat by the Mongoles, Kotyan’s Cumanos retreat toward the Kalka River while Tatar forces threaten to surround them. The opening is a survival and stabilization problem: use the scattered villagers and captured positions to establish two resource groups, recruit a modest caballería screen, and remove the nearby Tatar pressure with asedio support. Treat the Mongoles as a later threat; an early direct ataque is an unfavorable comerciar. (Mongoles, Mongoles)

Player approach
The retreating army and temporary allies are there to create breathing room, not to win the whole war on their own. Establish a northern work area for madera and asedio production and a southern area for comida. Then use a protected Ariete to break the nearby Tatar farming position while caballería keeps enemy unidades away from the asedio engine. (ataque)
Step-by-step plan
Use the villagers near the converted central Tower to place a Taller de maq. de asedio and Campamento maderero. Assign the southern villagers to comida and establish a Molino. Scout west for Oveja before comida becomes scarce. Produce Cab. de exploración from both Stables to screen the route, then send the Ariete toward the Tatar farming village with caballería ahead of it. Fortaleza the ram moving only while it is protected. After the first nearby defense is broken, regroup, reinforce the economía, and prepare for the larger conflict instead of chasing the Mongol army immediately. (Taller de maq. de asedio, Campamento maderero, comida, Molino, Oveja, Cab. de exploración)
Risks and adjustments
The nearby allies and captured Tower can delay pressure, but they should not be treated as permanent protection. Fortaleza the Ariete screened; caballería that wanders off to chase unidades leaves it exposed to attackers. If the first assault stalls, retreat the asedio engine, replace losses, and approach again with a stronger screen. Avoid committing to the Mongoles while your economía and production are still fragile. (Mongoles)
Focused strategy página
Stabilize before expanding: establish madera and comida production, find the western Oveja, and build a caballería screen from both Stables. The ram gives the opening army a way to dismantle the Tatar farming defense without sacrificing caballería in an unsupported charge. Once that local threat is reduced, use the recovered space to grow the economía and prepare a force for the later Mongol confrontation. (The Battle at the Kalka River opening defense)
