Role, availability & values

It costs 40 Food, takes 5 seconds to train and uses one population. It has 150 hit points, 20% hand resistance, 4.0 speed and 15 line of sight. Its ranged attack deals 19 damage at range 12 every 3 seconds and doubles against Siege units. The hand attack is 6 damage; its siege attack deals 5 at range 6 every 3 seconds. Its movement and firing interval reward deliberate positioning and focus fire.

Matchup & timing

Keep Akan Archers behind a screen and direct volleys toward enemy Siege units when those weapons threaten the army or buildings. The multiplier makes them more effective against artillery than base damage suggests, but they remain vulnerable if Cavalry or melee troops reach them. Their 4.0 speed makes it important to reposition before a push. Compare their role with the active African roster before committing to an anti-siege plan.

The bonus is situational

Against ordinary targets, an Archer deals 19 ranged damage with a three-second interval. The doubled damage applies to the Siege unit class, so this unit is most valuable when the opponent invests in artillery or other siege assets. It does not remove the need for a frontline: its low speed and infantry durability make it vulnerable to direct cavalry engagement. Preserve a firing lane, target the siege threat, and move with the army instead of letting the Archers trail behind.
