Effect & research conditions

Research costs 200 Wood and 200 Coin and takes 10 seconds. The effect applies to Heroes under the listed rules, not all military units. Access differs between the Aztec settlement route and Mexican Native Embassy route; confirm the active civilization’s option and identify which Hero will benefit.

Research condition

Available from the Exploration Age. Research it at Trading Post or Tambo on an Aztec settlement or Native Embassy (Mexicans).

When to research

Research before using a Hero in a major Treasure encounter or battle. The doubled hit points and damage can improve survival and combat output, but a Hero can still be focused or overwhelmed. Use the boost to secure a specific objective and keep supporting units close rather than treating the Hero as invulnerable.

A major improvement with a narrow target

Aztec Initiation is a large increase, but its scope is restricted to eligible Heroes. The hit-point bonus helps them endure an encounter, and the damage bonus can speed up fights against suitable targets. It does not improve ordinary units or make the Hero immune to counters. Secure the settlement connection, research before the push and keep a retreat or recovery plan ready if the Hero is defeated.
