Bird

Bird is a huntable resource unit in Age of Empires III: The Asian Dynasties. It is a stationary group of three black birds, worth 400 Food, and appears in campaign cinematics and on the Unknown random map rather than as a standard animal on ordinary maps.

Role, availability & values

Up to eight Villagers can gather the group. Unlike most Hunts it does not run when attacked, so workers can harvest it without first chasing a moving animal. It has 20 hit points, speed 2 and line of sight 18, but is not a trainable military unit. The small group’s Food value and unusual appearances are determined by the scenario or map setup.

Matchup & timing

Treat Bird as a local Food bonus when it is present and safe to gather. It can help a scenario economy or provide a small boost on Unknown, but should not be included in a standard opening build order. Check the mission or map for ordinary Hunts as well, and move workers once the 400-Food resource is exhausted.

Scenario appearance and gathering limits

Bird appears in particular campaign scenes and the Unknown map. The cinematic On to Glory in Act II: China shows two groups, and the birds in those scenes may fly away as units approach; the gatherable map object is described as an immobile trio. The distinction matters because a cinematic appearance does not guarantee that the object is available as a resource during the mission. Where it is harvestable, the limit of eight gatherers makes it possible to collect the resource quickly, but nearby enemies or the scenario objective still determine whether workers can remain safely.
