Blue Guards

Blue Guards is an Industrial Age Dutch Church technology that sends 30 Blue Guards, which are Guard Musketeers. It becomes available after the Dutch send the Religious Freedom Home City Card. The research is a large direct infantry delivery rather than a standard queue of individual Musketeers.

Effect & research conditions

It costs 2,000 Coin and takes 15 seconds to research. The 30 Guard Musketeers arrive at the Home City shipment point, where they need a safe rally and sufficient room in the army. This Church option is unique to the Dutch; Japanese Blue Guards obtained through Dutch Consulate choices are a separate route and should not be confused with the Dutch technology.

Research condition

Dutch; Industrial Age; Church; Religious Freedom Home City Card sent; 15 seconds; 2,000 Coin; delivers 30 Blue Guards (Guard Musketeers).

When to research

Choose it when a late-game Dutch army needs a large Musketeer body and can use the Coin commitment. The shipment can establish a frontline quickly after completion, but it still needs support against units that counter Heavy Infantry. Protect the Church while researching and avoid placing the arrival point where the force can be attacked in pieces.

The Guard Musketeer identity

Blue Guards are the Dutch technology’s name for its delivered Guard Musketeers. The shipment creates a ready formation, but it does not remove the unit’s ordinary population and counter relationships. Use supporting ranged units or artillery when the opponent has a composition that can efficiently punish Heavy Infantry.

Dutch access changed with a later card

Before the Nassau Regiment Home City Card was introduced in update 14.43676, Blue Guards were the Dutch route to Musketeers. Later card access changed that context. The Church technology remains a 30-unit delivery, while the historical statement about it being the only Dutch Musketeer access applies only to the earlier version.
