Builds a War Camp or Watch Tower for free

Role, availability & values

It has 250 hit points and moves at 4.0 speed. The player selects one of its eligible structures and sends the builder to a legal site. The completed War Camp or Watch Tower provides its own functions; the builder does not train troops or defend itself while travelling.

Matchup & timing

Choose a War Camp when forward production will reinforce the army, or a Watch Tower when a route or settlement needs protection. Scout and escort the wagon, then guard the completed structure. Do not build beyond the area the African force can hold.

TEAM shipment and construction rates

The Camp Builder has 250 hit points, 4.0 speed and 18 line of sight, with 20% siege resistance. Its normal African role is to build a War Camp or Watch Tower for free. An Ethiopian TEAM 1 Camp Builder shipment can extend free construction to allied civilizations and their eligible structures; in that case, the builder constructs buildings three times faster and attack-capable buildings attack twice as fast. This card-based team effect is broader than the ordinary two-building African role, so check the selected alliance and shipment rules before relying on a particular structure. A Jagiellonian Legacy shipment can also provide a Camp Builder when the Ethiopian Habesha or Hausa Songhai alliance condition is met for Commerce Age advancement. Use its mobility to establish a forward building, but send units with it: it has no combat attack, and a free structure can still be destroyed before it supports the army.

A mobile way to establish free infrastructure

Camp Builders are African construction wagons that can build either a War Camp or a Watch Tower for free. They have 250 hit points, 20% siege resistance, speed 4.0 and line of sight 18. The wagon lets an army establish production or a defensive position without first paying the normal building cost, but its placement and survival still matter: move it with an escort, choose ground that remains useful after the army advances, and do not leave it inside the enemy’s reach while it constructs. A War Camp supports continued military production; a Watch Tower adds a defensive firing position. The correct choice depends on whether the force needs reinforcements or protection at that point on the map. It is an infrastructure unit rather than a combat replacement, so keep the army close enough to cover it.
