Effect & research conditions

Research costs 2,000 Wood and takes 15 seconds. The effect includes both a one-time group and a roster conversion: all Dragoons become Carabinieri, so the player should expect the existing cavalry line to change as well. The technology also enables Tavern production. Check the active profile for the exact rate-of-fire effect and reserve population for the arriving units.

Research condition

Available to Italians from the Fortress Age*. Research it at Basilica.

When to research

Research when the Italian army can use a larger Carabinieri force and has 2,000 Wood available. Protect the Basilica and review the Dragoon conversion before clicking, especially if the current army relies on their existing role. After the shipment, use Tavern production to replace losses and keep the cavalry screened from counters.

An upgrade and roster conversion in one purchase

Carabinieri changes the Italian cavalry roster rather than simply adding ten units. The delivered Carabinieri are accompanied by a transformation of all existing Dragoons, and the Tavern becomes a production source. This can create a strong timing window, but it also changes the composition already on the field. Make sure the army can use the resulting Carabinieri, and preserve enough population and production capacity to support them after the initial shipment.
