Research effect
Research takes 30 seconds and costs 400 Export at the Consulate. Each Castle supplies a Samurai when the effect resolves under the active rules. The units appear at their muster points, so their distance from the main army and the safety of each Castle affect how quickly they can join a fight.

Cost and prerequisites
Count the Castles that can provide useful reinforcements before spending Export. The technology is more attractive when several safe Castles are already established and there is population room for the Samurai; with few Castles, the return is smaller. Protect the structures and plan for the units’ travel time rather than expecting them to arrive together at the Consulate.
