Its ranged attack deals 16 damage at range 12 every 3 seconds: 3.5× against Heavy Cavalry, 3× against Artillery, 2.5× against Light ranged cavalry and Hand shock troopers, and 1.9× against Ranged shock troopers; it deals 0.75× to Villagers. Matchup & timing
Keep Counter Dragoons mobile and direct their fire at the classes they counter. Their 7.25 speed helps them choose range and reposition, but two population per unit makes careless trades expensive. Do not use them as a general anti-cavalry answer: the ranged attack is reduced against Cavalry and Shock troops. Pair them with units that can protect them from threats outside their bonus list.
Target class matters more than the unit label
Counter Dragoon combines several multipliers, so the opponent’s class tags determine whether its ranged shot is efficient. Heavy Cavalry and Artillery receive the largest bonuses; Light ranged cavalry and hand Shock troops also take extra damage. Cavalry and Shock troops instead receive a 0.6× ranged modifier in the recorded profile. Check the target class and use mobility to avoid committing the unit into an unfavorable engagement.
