Role, availability & values

The Consulate order takes 40 seconds, uses 14 population and grants 80 experience under the recorded rules. Carabineers provide mounted ranged fire, while Blue Guards supply an infantry element. That mixture can reach distant targets and hold ground, but the components should be kept within supporting distance so the ranged cavalry does not leave the infantry behind. Japanese access depends on the active Consulate alliance options.

Matchup & timing

Select it when the Japanese army needs a combination of ranged cavalry and supporting infantry and can wait for the delivery. Use Carabineers to pressure exposed targets while the Blue Guards help secure the route and protect the force from close engagement. Check the opponent’s anti-cavalry and infantry counters before investing the population.

Read the name as an alliance label

The Dutch Expeditionary Force is documented as a Japanese Consulate option. The roster is eight Carabineers and six Blue Guards; it is not a Dutch Home City shipment or a Dutch standard unit queue. This distinction helps when comparing Japanese alliance forces and when searching for the Dutch civilization’s own army.

Coordinate cavalry and infantry

The Carabineers can move and fire at range, but the Blue Guards give the group a different combat presence. If the mounted units ride ahead alone, they may draw anti-cavalry attention without support. Keep the formation together on approach, then split only when terrain or a clear target makes the maneuver safe.

Price and version change

The Japanese Fortress Age company costs 800 Export and takes 40 seconds after selecting Dutch Allies. It uses 14 population and currently delivers eight Carabineers with six Blue Guards. Before the Definitive Edition it contained seven Carabineers and used 13 population; Blue Guards were called Stadhouders.

Mounted and infantry support

Carabineers add mounted mobility, while Blue Guards supply the infantry portion. The two groups allow the company to respond to different threats, but they still need support against dedicated counters and artillery. Keep the Carabineers close enough to protect the infantry and avoid leaving either part of the formation exposed during a long cross-map movement.
