Effect & research conditions

The technology costs 1,000 Food and 1,000 Wood and takes 30 seconds. Villagers gather 50% faster from mines, Mountain Monasteries, Estates, Coin Rice Paddies, Coin Fields and Coin Haciendas. Fishing Ships gather 50% faster from whales; Hacienda automatic Coin gathering also rises by 50%. Bank build limit increases by two, which matters only to a civilization with access to Banks.

Research condition

Available to Europeans and Mexicans from the Imperial Age. Research it at Capitol.

When to research

Research when the economy uses several listed Coin sources or can make use of additional Banks. A player relying on one mine may not recover the large cost quickly, while whales and automatic Hacienda income can add value without assigning more Villagers. Check the current civilization and map before counting the Bank or whaling portions of the upgrade.

Multiple Coin sources in one upgrade

Excessive Taxation improves Villager gathering from mines, Mountain Monasteries, Estates and Coin-mode Rice Paddies, Fields and Haciendas by 50%. Hacienda automatic Coin generation and Fishing Ship whaling also increase by 50%. Food-mode buildings and ordinary fish gathering are not included.

Bank capacity is civilization-dependent

The technology adds two to the Bank build limit, but that part of the effect can be used only by civilizations and matches that can build Banks. Research it for the Coin sources actually present in the match, and treat Bank capacity as an additional benefit rather than assuming every eligible player can construct Banks.
