German Expeditionary Army

German Expeditionary Army is a Chinese Consulate shipment unlocked through the German Allies option. For 1,600 Export it delivers 18 Prussian Needle Gunners and one Consulate Heavy Cannon. The package combines a large ranged infantry group with a piece of artillery, so it can contest an army and apply siege pressure at the same time. The Heavy Cannon is the vulnerable component that needs the infantry and other units to keep opponents at a distance.

Role, availability & values

Select German Allies and research or call the shipment when the force can arrive at a safe rally point. Keep the Heavy Cannon behind the Needle Gunners and gather the entire delivery before moving into enemy territory. Protect the artillery from Cavalry and melee units, and use the ranged infantry to screen and pressure threats while the cannon attacks its intended target.

Matchup & timing

Choose it when a mixed army can immediately contest a position or help break defenses. It costs 1,600 Export and requires the Chinese Consulate’s German Allies option, so compare it with other alliance choices and shipment needs. The package is most valuable when the army has enough population and a plan to protect the Heavy Cannon.

Current and original compositions

The Industrial Age German Allies option costs 1,600 Export, takes 60 seconds and uses 25 population. The Definitive Edition army consists of 18 Prussian Needle Gunners and one Consulate Heavy Cannon. The Asian Dynasties version had eleven Needle Guns and two Heavy Cannons, so both the infantry count and artillery count changed.

Protect the single Heavy Cannon

The large group of skirmisher-type infantry forms a ranged screen around one Heavy Cannon. Use the infantry to keep cavalry and other threats away while the cannon targets valuable structures or siege units. Since only one cannon arrives in the current version, losing it removes the package’s main siege piece; avoid advancing it without support.
