Matchup & timing
Use the Horseman to answer Heavy cavalry, pressure artillery and move between threatened areas. Its ranged attack has strong listed bonuses against cavalry and artillery, while its hand and trample attacks can punish a close engagement. Keep it away from massed anti-cavalry and protect its retreat route; it is a scenario unit rather than a general Irish Confederates option in every match.
Ranged reach with a cavalry counter role
The 3–14 ranged attack reaches farther than its hand attack and carries a 3× bonus against Heavy cavalry. The 2.5× bonuses against Hand shock troops and Artillery make target choice important. Its damage against Villagers is reduced, so use it to counter the listed military classes rather than expecting it to be an efficient worker raider.
Age-ups improve the scenario profile
The Irish Horseman begins with a 10% hit-point and damage bonus. Its automatic age-up improvements raise that figure to 20%, 30% and 50% in Fortress, Industrial and Imperial Ages. These increases follow the scenario’s age progression; they are not separate upgrades to research at the Irish Confederates. Keep surviving cavalry alive as the army ages so it benefits from the stronger profile.
