Effect

The effect applies to hand attacks by the listed unit classes when they attack buildings. It does not improve their damage against ordinary troops or increase artillery siege damage.

Research condition

Available in the Commerce Age at Arsenal (Europeans and Federal Americans) , Golden Pavilion (Japanese) , Teepee (Lakota). Research time: 30 seconds. Cost: 250 wood, 250 coin. Civilization-specific building access can vary.

Research decision

Research before using the affected units to break through walls or destroy exposed buildings. It is a situational siege investment when the plan includes a raid or base assault, rather than a universal combat improvement.

Improve structure pressure from melee units

This Commerce Age Arsenal upgrade raises building siege damage by 25% for Hand Cavalry and hand Shock Infantry. It does not improve their damage to ordinary troops or artillery siege attacks. Research before a planned raid on production buildings, and make sure the eligible melee units can reach the structures without being intercepted.

Choose eligible melee units for a building raid

Pillage benefits building attacks from Hand Cavalry and hand Shock Infantry by 25%. It has no effect on ordinary troop combat and does not improve artillery siege. Research it when the army can safely reach structures and keep the relevant melee units alive long enough to apply their attack. Otherwise, the Arsenal investment may not contribute to the current fight.
