Function & construction
The Pavilion’s unit reward arrives when the Wonder completes, while its army improvements and research access support the next stage of play. Exact effects and available advanced technologies follow the Japanese technology tree for the applicable version. It is an age-up structure, not a regular unit-production building.
Placement & timing
Choose it when Yumi Archers and the Pavilion’s military support fit the next army. Protect the structure during construction and make use of the unit reward promptly. If the army needs a different role or economic support, compare the other Japanese Wonders before advancing.
Army configuration and Japanese upgrades
It can configure one of four military bonuses: +10% ranged attack in Definitive Edition (the Asian Dynasties value was +15%), +15% hand attack, +10% hit points for land military units, or +5% speed for land military units. Choose the setting that matches the force already being fielded; the ranged option is stronger when Yumi Archers and other ranged units form the core, while speed can help an army reposition. Advanced Arsenal research is also available here, including Flint Lock (200 Wood, 250 Coin) for +10% Gunpowder unit hit points, Paper Cartridge (300 Wood, 300 Coin) for +15% Gunpowder damage, Pillage (250 Wood, 250 Coin) for +25% building siege bonus damage from eligible hand cavalry and shock troops, and Professional Gunners (400 Food, 100 Wood) for +10% Artillery hit points. Incendiary Grenades briefly appeared in this menu with update 15.59076, then were removed by patch 15.59076; do not treat it as a permanent option. The Wonder’s effects make the choice relevant well beyond the initial Age-up shipment.
Age-up cost and schedule
It is limited to one and has 5,000 hit points, so defend the site through construction. The Wonder’s chosen army bonus and its Yumi Archer shipment are separate benefits; consider both when deciding whether to invest the time and resources.
Age-up costs, time and Yumi Archer shipments
The Japanese advance through the Pavilion has a distinct cost and completion time at each step. Commerce Age costs 800 Food and takes 120 seconds, then sends 3 Yumi Archers. Fortress Age costs 1,200 Food and 1,000 Coin and takes 145 seconds, sending 6 Yumi Archers. Industrial Age costs 2,000 Food and 1,200 Coin and takes 120 seconds, sending 10. Imperial Age costs 4,000 Food and 4,000 Coin and takes 120 seconds, sending 16. These are one-time reinforcements delivered when the Wonder completes the age advance; they are separate from the Pavilion’s selectable military bonus. Keep population space for the arriving archers and protect the Wonder during the full construction period.
