Function & construction
The Wonder’s Shrine function contributes to the Japanese housing and resource system, while Export supports purchases through the Consulate. It should be understood as a combined age-up building rather than an ordinary Shrine placed separately.
Placement & timing
Choose it when additional Shrine coverage and Export help the economic or allied-unit plan. Place the Wonder where its resource role is protected, and consider whether the Consulate can turn the Export into a useful purchase.
Shrine economy and Tomb of Ieyasu
Toshogu Shrine advances the Japanese to the next Age, grants Export and functions as two Shrines. It also has the Tomb of Ieyasu ability, linking the Wonder to Japan’s Shrine-centered economy. The structure supports 20 population and has 5,000 hit points; like other Asian Wonders it is limited to one and can be built by Asian Villagers. Place it where its Shrine effect supports the economy and the Wonder can be defended. The Export is an immediate resource for Consulate purchases, while its Shrine function provides ongoing value after the age-up. Compare this mix against another Wonder’s unit or military bonus before selecting it.
Age-up cost and persistent Shrine function
It supports 20 population and counts as two Shrines after construction, so its placement affects both the age transition and the Japanese economy. The completion Export can be spent through the Consulate on an alliance or other eligible purchase. Its Tomb of Ieyasu ability is a Wonder-specific effect. Keep the structure protected and choose it when ongoing Shrine value plus Export is more useful than another Japanese Wonder’s direct military reward.
Japanese resource generation and placement
The Toshogu Shrine is a Japanese Wonder associated with the Shrine-based economy. Placement should be planned around animals and the map’s gathering layout. Because a Wonder is also an age-up choice, weigh its reward against alternatives that provide military support or another economic effect. The economic choice can sustain Villager and army production later, but it does not secure surrounding territory automatically. Protect the site, preserve access to nearby resources and choose the Wonder before beginning an age-up that commits the civilization to a reward.
When to select the Wonder
Select the Toshogu Shrine when its expected economic return suits the map and the match will last long enough to benefit. If an attack is imminent, a defensive or military Wonder may answer the urgent problem better. Consider the Shrine network and animal bonus together: scattered or unsafe Shrines weaken the economic plan, while nearby huntables and a protected base make it more dependable. Japanese Wonders have different roles, so compare the Toshogu Shrine with the alternatives instead of treating it as mandatory every match.
