Scout the herd and the route before sending Settlers far from the Town Center. Distribute workers across animals rather than exceeding the eight-gatherer limit on one carcass. The ten-animal herd can provide a useful early Food reserve, but its supply is finite; identify another Hunt before the last carcass is depleted, and keep exposed gathering within reach of an army response.
