Effect & research conditions
Research takes 60 seconds and costs 250 Food and 250 Coin. The speed bonus applies to Infantry; it does not increase Cavalry speed, attack damage or hit points. The technology was previously named Incan Road-building and changed to Quechuan Mountaineering in update 47581, reflecting its Quechua settlement access rather than a general Market upgrade.
Research condition
Exploration Age at a Trading Post or Tambo on a Quechua settlement. Cost: 250 Food and 250 Coin; research time: 60 seconds.
When to research
Start the research before a planned march or rotation so the army can benefit for the full movement. The one-minute delay and Food/Coin cost compete with immediate production, so do not research during an urgent defense unless the speed change can affect that fight. Keep the Quechua settlement accessible until the upgrade completes.
Movement support with settlement-specific access
The 10% Infantry speed bonus helps the affected units reach a flank, reinforce a threatened pass or withdraw from danger. It does not improve Cavalry, damage or hit points. Research it at the Quechua Trading Post or Tambo for 250 Food and 250 Coin; it takes 60 seconds. The former name, Incan Road-building, was changed in update 47581. Treat it as a planned Native-site investment, then weigh the travel benefit against the units that could be trained during the research time. The increase is most noticeable when eligible infantry must march back to a second fight or regroup after retreating. It does not bypass blocked terrain or enemy control, so scout the route and keep an escort with slow units.
