Ranged cavalry damage +10%, Line of Sight and (except Cuerudo) ranged attack range +2

Effect

The listed effect is 10% more damage plus 2 Line of Sight and 2 ranged attack range for affected Ranged Cavalry, with Cuerudo excluded from the range and sight increase. The technology applies to the eligible class rather than every mounted unit, and access depends on the Arsenal and game version.

Research condition

Available in the Commerce Age at Arsenal (Africans, Europeans, Federal Americans) , Longhouse (Haudenosaunee) , Teepee (Lakota). Research time: 30 seconds. Cost: 200 food, 300 wood. Civilization-specific building access can vary.

Research decision

Research before a map rotation or engagement where the affected units need to spot targets sooner or attack from farther away. The added vision is useful only when the army can respond to what it reveals. Compare the cost with unit production if the match requires immediate numbers.

Apply the upgrade to eligible ranged cavalry

The Arsenal research adds 10% damage and generally two line of sight and two ranged attack range; Cuerudo is excluded from the range and sight bonuses. Check the eligible unit list and current version before researching. The longer reach can improve contact and positioning, but it does not apply to every mounted unit or replace an anti-cavalry screen.

Combine range with a safe cavalry position

The two-point line-of-sight and attack-range gains help eligible Ranged Cavalry fire earlier and reposition with more awareness. Cuerudo receives the 10% damage increase but not the range or vision additions. Keep the unit mobile and screened from melee cavalry; the upgrade extends its firing role but does not make it durable in close combat.

What the Arsenal upgrade changes

Ranged Cavalry Caracole is an Arsenal technology for ranged cavalry. Its profile grants the affected units 10% more damage, two additional points of line of sight and two points of ranged attack range. The bonuses are relevant to units that fight by firing while moving or holding distance, since the extra reach can let them begin an exchange earlier and the added sight helps reveal targets. Cuerudo receives the damage increase but is excluded from the range and sight portion, so the complete package does not apply uniformly to every unit covered by the technology.

Research access and timing

The research costs 200 Food and 300 Wood and takes 30 seconds. Europeans and African civilizations can research it at the Arsenal in the Commerce Age; Haudenosaunee use a Longhouse, while Lakota use a Teepee. It is also available to Federal Americans through the Arsenal. Since the Wood cost competes with buildings and unit production, research it when ranged cavalry already forms a meaningful part of the plan. It improves the relevant cavalry’s performance but does not remove its counters: screen it from melee pressure and use its mobility to choose favorable firing positions.
