Effect & research conditions
The technology costs 200 Food and 200 Wood and takes 30 seconds. Its effects apply to specific Coin sources and passive Hacienda output; it does not improve Food or Wood gathering. Rice Trade is the listed follow-up research, so this technology can start a later economic progression.
Research condition
Available to Asians from the Commerce Age. Research it at Rice Paddy.
When to research
Research when Villagers are already gathering Coin from the eligible buildings or Haciendas are generating Coin. The two bonuses can complement one another, but the upgrade is less useful if the economy relies on mines or other sources outside its list. Include the Rice Paddy’s research time and cost in the plan for Rice Trade.
Coin income from workers and Haciendas
Rice Surplus combines an active work-rate increase with a passive Hacienda improvement. Villagers gathering Coin from the listed Estate, Rice Paddy, Field or Hacienda sources collect faster, while the Hacienda’s own Coin income rises separately. This is not a universal Coin bonus: mines and unrelated buildings are outside the listed effect. Check how the Asian economy is configured before researching, and use the improvement when both its worker and passive portions can operate over time.
