Royal Tax
Royal Tax is an Exploration Age economic technology from Definitive Edition — Knights of the Mediterranean. It grants 35 Coin for every building you own when researched, up to a total payout of 10,000 Coin. Its value grows with an established settlement rather than with the size of the army.

Effect & research conditions
Research it at a Trading Post or Tambo on a House of Bourbon palace. French players can instead unlock it at a Royal Embassy after sending the Ancien Régime Home City Card, which also converts Native Embassies into Royal Embassies. It costs 150 Food and 150 Wood and takes 30 seconds. An earlier version paid 20 Coin per building before update 13.18214; the current amount is 35.
Research condition
Available from the Exploration Age. Research it at Trading Post or Tambo on a House of Bourbon palace or Royal Embassy (French with the "Ancien Régime" card).
When to research
Research after establishing the buildings you intend to count and when you can spare the 30-second window. For example, 20 owned buildings produce 700 Coin, while the overall payout cannot exceed 10,000. It is less attractive during a rush when resources and research time are needed for units.
A building-count payout
Royal Tax rewards an established base: each owned building adds 35 Coin to the one-time grant, and the grant stops at 10,000 Coin. The return depends on the number of buildings owned when the technology is researched, rather than on a continuing trickle. Add the payout to the economy plan before spending on a large army or an Age transition.
Research locations and version history
The standard access is a Trading Post or Tambo on a House of Bourbon palace. French players with the Ancien Régime card gain access through a Royal Embassy. Knights of the Mediterranean originally gave 20 Coin per building; update 13.18214 raised the current amount to 35. Keep that older value separate when reading pre-update references.
