Effect & research conditions

Research costs 100 Food and 100 Coin and takes 10 seconds. The effect increases population limits for the listed worker types; it does not directly create workers or speed up their training. Access depends on securing the Sufi Mosque holy site and placing the required Trading Post or Tambo there. The higher limit is useful only if the civilization’s worker economy has room and resources to train the additional units.

Research condition

Available from the Exploration Age. Research it at Trading Post or Tambo on a Sufi Mosque holy site.

When to research

Research before a sustained economic expansion when the normal cap would otherwise prevent additional workers. It can be valuable after losses or when planning a longer game, but the 100 Food and 100 Coin still compete with early military and age-up needs. Avoid treating the extra limit as an immediate economic payout: workers must still be queued, funded and protected.

A higher limit is not a free shipment

Sharia changes the maximum number of several Villager types the player may train: +10 for Settlers, Villagers and Hindu Villagers, and +8 for Coureur des Bois. It does not deliver that many units. The player still pays each unit’s cost and training time, and must protect the larger worker population from raids.

Consider the worker type in your civilization

The available benefit depends on which of the listed worker types the civilization can train. A Coureur des Bois player receives the +8 limit for that unit, while other listed economies can use the +10 limit for their worker line. Check the current population and planned economy before researching so the increased ceiling can actually be used.
