Role, availability & values

Use the Shotel Warrior’s speed to close on Light Infantry and threaten exposed targets, but keep support near it during the approach. Its bonus is specific to Light Infantry and should not be assumed to apply against all ranged units or every infantry class. The unit can be produced from land or naval access points, so choose a site that remains safe and close to the fight.

Matchup & timing

Train Shotels when the Ethiopian army needs mobile infantry and scouting reveals Light Infantry worth engaging. They can support a mixed force, but their one-population profile does not make them durable against every counter. Maintain a ranged or frontline screen and use the Fort or War Camp to reinforce a controlled position.

Ethiopian mobile infantry

Shotel Warrior is Ethiopian infantry from The African Royals, available in the Commerce Age at the War Camp, Fort, Battle Canoe or American Citadel. It costs 55 Food and 50 Coin, uses one population and takes 27 seconds to train. The profile has 160 hit points, 10% ranged resistance, speed 6.25 and line of sight 12. Its 13-damage hand attack has a 1.25× bonus against Light Infantry, and its 11-damage siege attack can add limited building pressure. The high speed lets Shotels close on light infantry or move between positions more quickly than many infantry units, but their bonus does not apply to every ranged troop or all infantry. Use scouting to identify Light Infantry before committing, then keep Shotels with support so they are not focused down while approaching. War Camp and Fort production are useful for land forces, while Battle Canoe or American Citadel access may help on particular maps or in special setups. The unit costs both Food and Coin, so compare it with other Ethiopian options and maintain enough Coin for the army’s broader plan. Its one-population cost supports group production, but it is not a substitute for a durable front line or a dedicated anti-cavalry unit.

Light Infantry target selection

The 1.25× bonus applies specifically to Light Infantry, not to every ranged unit. Confirm the target tag before engaging and use the Shotel’s 6.25 speed to close or withdraw. Its 160 hit points and 10% ranged resistance help, but it should remain supported by the Ethiopian army. Use the 11-damage siege attack only when the area is clear, and return the unit to the force when enemy reinforcements approach.

Commerce Age access

The War Camp, Fort, Battle Canoe and American Citadel are possible sources. Use the safest production point and add Shotels when Light Infantry is an important opponent target.

Light Infantry specialization

The Shotel’s 1.25× bonus applies to Light Infantry only. Use its speed to engage that class and keep it supported against other infantry or ranged units.

Mobile response

Its 6.25 speed helps the Shotel move between fights or close distance on Light Infantry. The 1.25× bonus is narrow, so scout before committing and keep other Ethiopian units ready for Cavalry, heavy infantry or ranged threats.

War Camp timing

Commerce Age access lets Ethiopia add Shotels before Fortress units arrive. Use them when Light Infantry is present and maintain other counters for the rest of the enemy army.

Training and support

A 27-second queue and one-population cost let Ethiopia add Shotels in groups. Use the speed advantage to engage Light Infantry, but keep them near support against other enemy classes.

Light Infantry specialization and approach

The Shotel Warrior is an Ethiopian Commerce Age unit whose speed and attack bonus give it a specific job against Light Infantry. Its 13-damage hand attack carries a 1.25× multiplier against that class, and at 6.25 speed it can reach or reposition around targets more quickly than many infantry formations. Do not generalize the bonus to all ranged units: class labels determine whether the multiplier applies. The Shotel also has only 160 hit points and 10% ranged resistance, so its approach can be punished by concentrated fire. Use cover, terrain or a frontline engagement to close distance, then focus the intended target and pull back when anti-infantry troops begin to answer.

Where to train and how to reinforce

The War Camp is the principal land production route, with Forts and the listed naval or special access adding alternatives under their conditions. A 55 Food and 50 Coin cost, one population and 27-second training time make Shotels a comparatively quick way to add mobile infantry once the economy can support both resources. Their 11-damage siege attack can assist a push against an exposed structure, but their short reach and limited durability mean they should not be the only siege force. Add ranged support for targets they cannot safely approach and a sturdier screen against cavalry. Their best timing is when scouting confirms useful Light Infantry targets and the opponent has not yet assembled a force that can punish the charge.
