Sobieski's Janissaries

Sobieski's Janissaries is a Polish Commerce Age Church technology that delivers ten Crown Janissaries and unlocks their production at Forts. The Crown unit is a Polish Consulate-style Janissary with stronger siege and melee bonuses, giving the technology both an immediate force and a later production option.

Effect & research conditions

Research takes 15 seconds and costs 800 Wood. It sends ten Crown Janissaries, whose siege attack is 50% stronger and whose melee attacks gain an additional 1.0× bonus against Cavalry and Shock troops. After researching it, qualifying Forts can train Crown Janissaries. Crown Grenadiers is listed as the next research in this technology line.

Research condition

When to research

Use the delivery to add a supported frontline group or to prepare a Fort-based reinforcement plan. Leave population space for all ten units and keep them screened as they approach; the siege bonus is useful against structures, while the melee bonus helps them fight the named close-combat targets. Research before the force is needed, and evaluate Crown Grenadiers separately rather than assuming this research grants that follow-up too.

One technology changes both access and composition

The ten-unit delivery is only the first part of the value. Enabling Crown Janissary training at Forts gives the Polish player a way to reinforce from a forward or defensive structure after the initial group arrives. This can help sustain pressure near a secured position, but the Fort must still be built, supplied with population and protected. If the match is decided before a second training wave, the immediate delivery matters more than the unlock; if the position will last, the production option can shape the follow-up.

Match the bonuses to the target

The extra siege damage supports attacks on buildings, while the additional melee multiplier is specifically relevant against Cavalry and Shock troops. It does not make Crown Janissaries a universal answer to ranged infantry or artillery. Pair them with units that can cover those threats and avoid exposing the slow approach to sustained ranged fire. Their role is clearest when the opponent's army or a fortified objective gives the bonuses a target.
