Spanish Brigade
Spanish Brigade is an Imperial Age Japanese Consulate technology that delivers 17 Espadachins and 15 Garrochistas. The mixed group combines the two named unit types, so it adds a sizeable force without requiring the player to queue each unit individually. Research takes 90 seconds. The long completion time makes this a planned reinforcement rather than a quick response, and the delivered units still need to be organized and supported after they arrive.

Effect & research conditions
Start the research when the Consulate can remain occupied for the 90-second duration and the force will have a role on arrival. Bring the Espadachins and Garrochistas together with the existing army, then use each according to its own combat role and class matchups. Do not assume the technology upgrades units already in the field; its listed effect is the delivery of the specified force.
Research condition
Japanese; Imperial Age; Spanish Consulate alliance; researched at the Consulate; costs 2,300 Export in Definitive Edition (2,400 in The Asian Dynasties); 90-second research; delivers 17 Espadachins and 15 Garrochistas.
When to research
Use Spanish Brigade to prepare for a major Imperial Age engagement or to strengthen a defense that can wait for the research to finish. Begin before the intended push so the force can join the army in time. If the battle is imminent, invest in an immediately available response instead of waiting through the long research interval.
Export cost and version change
Spanish Brigade costs 2,300 Export in Definitive Edition. In The Asian Dynasties, it cost 2,400 Export. The research still takes 90 seconds and delivers 17 Espadachins and 15 Garrochistas, so an older deck or Treaty guide may quote the earlier price. The player must have the Spanish Consulate alliance and the Imperial Age option available before starting the long research.
Use the melee group to support Japanese ranged infantry
The Brigade provides two melee unit types in one delivery. The large group can absorb ranged pressure in front of Ashigaru Musketeers while the rest of the army deals damage. Gather the force at a safe rally point, then bring it forward with the ranged line rather than allowing the Espadachins and Garrochistas to arrive separately. The 90-second wait makes this a Treaty or planned late-game reinforcement, not an emergency response.
