Swedes strategy

Swedes build an economy around Torps, which gather nearby resources, and field Caroleans as a central infantry option. This combination can support early military pressure or a faster transition to later-age units.

Civilization identity & tools

Place Torps where their gathering radius can reach useful resources and where the buildings can be defended. Caroleans are costly, so Torp income and worker assignments must support continuous production. Home City deliveries can add early troops or artillery, but the value depends on the current matchup.

Matchups & timing

Use Torps to reduce worker travel and support a planned resource mix, then scout to decide whether to spend on early units or save for the Fortress Age. A Carolean line needs a response to artillery and units that can exploit its matchup gaps.

Practical plan

Protect the Torp network with an army that can answer raids. When choosing a shipment based attack, confirm the opponent lacks the counters needed to stop it before investing in a forward fight.

Opening choices and Torp economy

A Swedish opening can pressure early with two Leather Cannons and eight Crossbowmen from Home City shipments, or save toward a fast Fortress Age. One common fast-Fortress timing uses a 700-Coin shipment and can reach the next Age in roughly six to seven minutes, after which two Falconets or a 1,000-Coin shipment may support a push. Those timings depend on the map, shipment order and current balance; they are examples from the strategy article, not guaranteed arrival times. Torps gather nearby resources and can reduce the need to assign Settlers to Wood, helping fund the Carolean, whose cost makes continuous production resource-intensive. Place and protect Torps near useful resources, and keep enough Settlers on Food and Coin for units or aging. The Torp network is vulnerable when spread across the map and relies on Home City cards to improve resource gathering. Scout the opponent before choosing whether the first shipments should sustain a rush or enable the Fortress transition.

Build Torps around safe gathering, then spend the income

Treat each Torp as a worker that cannot walk away from a raid. Place it where its gathering area touches useful resources and where the army can respond if an opponent attacks; spreading Torps too far can create more exposed edges than the Carolean force can protect. Keep ordinary Villagers on resources that Torps do not cover well and use them to supply houses, production and upgrades. Caroleans provide the central military line, but their presence is not a reason to stop scouting: choose whether to add cavalry, artillery or another support unit based on the opponent’s counters. If a rush arrives before several Torps repay their cost, pause expansion and defend the existing economy. On a quiet map, add new Torps as territory becomes safe and turn the extra income into continuous production rather than stockpiling resources while the opponent controls the center.
