Effect & research conditions
Research takes 60 seconds at a Shrine and costs 500 Food, 500 Wood and 500 Coin. The percentages apply to automatic Shrine and Toshogu Shrine gathering: +350% for Food and +300% for Wood and Coin. This is building income, not a Villager gathering bonus.
Research condition
Available to Japanese from the Industrial Age. Research it at Shrine.
When to research
Research when Japan has a developed Shrine network and enough match time for the increased automatic income to repay the 1,500-resource cost and 60-second delay. With only one or two Shrines, immediate units or defenses may be more valuable. Protect the network while the upgrade is researched and afterward.
Large bonuses to automatic Shrine income
Tenpo Reforms increases automatic gathering from Shrines and the Toshogu Shrine by 350% for Food and 300% for Wood and Coin. It affects the buildings’ automatic output, not Villagers assigned to gather resources.
Late-game network investment
The Industrial Age research costs 500 Food, 500 Wood and 500 Coin and takes 60 seconds. Its return scales with the number of active Shrines and the time remaining. Research with a protected network that can keep generating resources; do not assume the large percentage alone will repay the cost from a small number of buildings.
