Map overview
Italy’s streets, courtyards and buildings connect the hostage locations to the rescue route. The compact paths create frequent close engagements and make callouts useful for describing which street or building a player has checked. Counter-Terrorists have to balance clearing positions with the time needed to escort hostages back.
Players can approach through different street routes and enter buildings from connected openings. Defenders may hold a doorway or watch a longer lane, but a single position cannot safely cover every approach. Communicate movement and avoid assuming that a route remains clear after an opponent was last seen elsewhere.
Hostage movement
The Counter-Terrorists must reach a hostage, begin the rescue interaction and guide the hostage toward a rescue zone. The escort becomes vulnerable while moving through streets and doorways. Teammates should watch ahead and behind, call out the selected route and avoid leaving the carrier isolated.
Terrorists try to prevent that movement by defending important approaches. They may delay the team or force it to clear another position, but the Counter-Terrorist objective remains rescuing hostages. This differs from Bomb Defusal, where attackers carry the C4 Explosive and choose a bombsite.
Clearing routes
Flash utility can support entry into a building or across a watched street; smoke can reduce a defender’s view of a crossing. The team should coordinate the timing and then move while the opening exists. Players still need to clear corners and protect one another because visual obstruction does not remove nearby defenders.
Once the hostage is moving, the team should favor a route it can cover. A player ahead can check the next doorway while another watches the return path. If information changes or the route is blocked, call the adjustment early so the carrier does not run into an unsupported engagement.
CS2 applicability & availability
This page describes Italy in CS2 Hostage Rescue. Queue selection and map rotation can change, so current availability belongs in a dated record rather than this stable map description.
Performance and clipping adjustments (August 21, 2024)
The August 21, 2024 CS2 update listed performance improvements and clipping adjustments for Italy. No benchmark, exact location or specific collision issue was identified. The record therefore documents a general technical and geometry pass without promising a particular frame-rate gain or describing a new route. These changes are separate from the map’s Hostage Rescue objective.
Counter-Strike 2 map layout and availability
Italy is a Hostage Rescue map set in a compact Italian town. Its narrow passageways create close engagements, while the marketplace forms a broader open area where teams can contest sightlines. Several buildings and houses are accessible, so play moves between outdoor lanes and interior spaces.
Counter-Strike 2 reintroduced Italy with layout changes and a full graphics overhaul; the CS2 version takes place at dusk. It is available in Casual, Competitive and Deathmatch, with Competitive availability recorded from October 3, 2024. During the earlier Limited Test, the August 15, 2023 update added Italy to Casual and Deathmatch. Those dated pool facts are separate from the map’s hostage objective. See Hostage Rescue and Hostage.
August 16, 2023 map fixes
The August 16, 2023 CS2 Limited Test update listed various bug fixes and tweaks for Italy without enumerating each location or effect. The patch is a dated maintenance record; it does not describe a new route or change to the Hostage Rescue objective. See Map Rotations for the test’s mode availability history.
Boosting out of playable space (September 8, 2023)
The September 8 update added fixes intended to prevent players from boosting out of playable space on Italy. It does not name the specific geometry, route or team setup. The note describes a boundary fix, not removal of ordinary in-bounds boosts or a change to Italy’s mode availability.
