The Close Ranger

The Close Ranger is a unique crossbow in Minecraft Dungeons II that flips the sniper fantasy on its head. Its unique Point Blank effect doubles ranged damage against nearby enemies — get in close, judge your enemies face to face, and let the bolts do the talking. It holds an S tier rating for calculated DPS, the highest mark a ranged weapon can earn.
Stats and mechanics
Point Blank grants 100% more ranged damage at close range — the full doubling, with proximity as the only condition. That makes The Close Ranger one of the hardest-hitting ranged options in the game when enemies are right on top of you. Its Tank + Fighter archetype and heavy weight suit an aggressive, in-your-face style: this is a weapon for heroes who treat a crossbow like a shotgun. Bolts are unlimited and self-regenerating, and crossbow projectiles fly fast, so close-range volleys land instantly. Enchantments that reward aggression or punish nearby enemies fit perfectly.
How to get it
The Close Ranger drops in Howling Woods, The Deep Dark and Humbler Huskland. It appears as the unique roll of the Heavy Crossbow — any Heavy Crossbow drop can come out as this one, so farming that weapon's sources is the way to hunt it.
Builds and playstyles
The Close Ranger is made for aggressive heroes who dive into the fray and delete targets at arm's length. It pairs well with enchanting choices that reward close combat or burst damage. Its philosophical opposite is Creaking's Reach, which doubles damage far away instead — pick your distance. Flat-damage fans can compare it with Paragon, and everyone else can start from the plain Crossbow.
