Overview

After a difficult landing, capture Limassol to gain a foothold and reinforcements, then confront Isaac in the heavily fortified Nicosia. Richard can seize castles personally; a strong land force and control of the coast make the siege easier.

Player approach

Cyprus in the Definitive Edition begins after a storm scatters your force. Recover useful units and ships, capture Limassol, then prepare for simultaneous assaults from Nicosia and its fleet.

Step-by-step plan

Search the islands and coast for stranded ships and troops before committing to the northern push. Use Longbowmen to clear scouts along the route to Limassol, then bring the available Trebuchet or the Standard-difficulty unique siege unit to destroy the Castle and claim the city. Once the base transfers, prioritize defensive infrastructure and a navy: Nicosia’s land army includes heavy units and siege, while its fleet can attack from the sea. Keep a mobile reserve between the gate and shoreline and use the new city’s production to replace losses.

Risks and adjustments

The special siege unit appears only on Standard; on higher difficulties use the standard Trebuchet. Nicosia’s attack can overwhelm a single defensive line, so do not neglect either coast or land gates, and do not send the reclaimed army away before defenses are established.
