Overview

Player approach
Tamar the Builder puts early pressure on river crossings and mountain passes. Place defenses to protect both sides of the front, then use water trade and Relics to offset declining local gold.
Step-by-step plan
Start by building a compact defense and add Castles at the passes and crossings that channel enemy attacks. Garrison frontline Castles heavily enough to stop mounted waves, and keep a small Galley fleet near likely crossing points. Advance toward Imperial Age once the defense is stable, researching useful defensive and cavalry upgrades. Secure Relics and prepare sea trade before nearby gold deposits are depleted.
Risks and adjustments
A Castle without a meaningful garrison may not stop an attack wave. Distant mines are easy to raid, so avoid sending many Villagers beyond the protected front and establish trade before gold becomes scarce.
