Overview
Build around cost-efficient cavalry and flexible mounted support. Use camels to challenge opposing cavalry, Genitours to pressure ranged units, and mobile raids to exploit gaps before the opponent can establish a compact defense.
Opening decision and first timing
Use faster Villagers to complete exposed buildings and move between resource sites, but scout before sending them into contested ground. In the Castle Age the cavalry discount becomes a real production advantage: prepare Stables, food, and gold before arrival so it converts into units rather than an unused stockpile.
Composition, counters, and transition
Camels and mobile cavalry let Berbers respond to mounted threats or raid a dispersed economy. Camel Archers offer a ranged mounted option when a Castle can be supported; Genitours can cover specific ranged matchups in a team context. On water, faster ships help choose engagements, though a fleet still needs Dock production and a secure fish economy.
Opening priorities
Scout early and choose a cavalry opening only when the map and opponent make it safe. Berber mounted units become especially valuable when sustained production matters.
Core army
Combine cavalry with camels against mounted armies, and use Genitours to add mobile ranged damage against foot archers. Keep a few counter units mixed into the main force.
Technology & transition
Use mobility to raid multiple exposed areas, then add the Berbers’ unique units and technology when their roles fit the matchup.
Watch for
Do not let discounted cavalry become an excuse to ignore counters; spears, walls, and concentrated ranged fire can blunt predictable raids.
