Overview

Extra Town Centers grow Villager production but divert resources from the army. Expand when map safety and existing forces can deter punishment.

Plan and execution

Scout for safe resources and enemy pressure. Add a Town Center only if its cost will not leave the base helpless, then protect new workers until the economy matures.

Risks and adaptation

A boom can be punished before it pays back. Delay or place expansion to cover a threatened resource when the opponent is advancing.

Decision example

A new Town Center needs wood, stone, housing, food for Villagers, and an area safe enough for workers to gather. If scouting shows immediate Knight or Crossbow pressure, spend on defense first or place the Town Center where its fire protects a threatened resource. When the route is safe, add Farms and worker assignments to feed the extra queue. Recheck military production after the expansion begins; an economic lead only matters if it survives long enough to turn into units and upgrades.
