GUIDE · BATTLE STRATEGY
Fast Castle Monks
Use an early Monastery to contest relics and threaten valuable units while adding utility.

Overview
Use an early Monastery to contest relics and threaten valuable units while adding utility.
Plan and execution
Scout relics during the advance, place the Monastery near a safe route, and escort a small Monk group with units that screen cavalry and ranged threats.
Risks and adaptation
Monks are slow and fragile. Avoid isolated trips into defended areas; shift toward direct military production when few worthwhile targets remain.
Decision example
Identify reachable Relics during the Feudal advance and build the Monastery where the first Monk can travel without crossing an enemy army. Escort the carrier, return it to safety, and only then contest a second difficult Relic. Against a valuable Knight or siege unit, keep the Monk behind a screen long enough to threaten a conversion; against massed Archers or Light Cavalry, do not rely on a few exposed Monks as the whole defense. Shift to the unit line that protects the Relic income once the opponent responds.
