Opening decision and first timing
Faster Foragers and free Farm upgrades support early food for Scout Cavalry without delaying worker production. Use the first Scouts to locate vulnerable resources and force a response, then preserve surviving cavalry for vision or the Castle Age. A predictable mounted opening invites Spearmen, so learn where they are before committing.
Composition, counters, and transition
Knights are the natural Castle Age core, and cheaper Castles can secure an outside resource or staging point. Throwing Axemen are a support choice when infantry counters block the Knights, while siege opens walls and fortified positions. Chivalry helps replacement cavalry arrive faster after the economy can sustain them. On water, protect the crossing with a modest fleet rather than assuming the land bonus will win it.
Opening priorities

Core army
Knights and Throwing Axemen cover mobile and close-range roles, with Castles supporting the signature unit.
Technology & transition
Keep pressure through Castle Age and convert economic momentum into cavalry upgrades or castle production.
Watch for
The cavalry line misses some standard upgrades and the archer roster is limited; scout before choosing a late-game composition.
