Overview
Khmer: Use the freedom to build production and advance without the usual prerequisite buildings to keep the opening adaptable. Battle Elephants, Ballista Elephants, and siege can combine into a strong push when resources support them.
Opening decision and first timing
Ignoring normal building prerequisites can bring a chosen military building or age advance forward. Decide what the saved construction time is buying: early Scouts, a Castle Age timing, or a protected boom. Farmers deposit directly, so Farm placement can be flexible, but their slower work rate means food queues still need checking.
Composition, counters, and transition
Fast Battle Elephants can threaten a base once the opponent lacks enough counters, while Ballista Elephants offer a ranged siege role. Both are expensive and vulnerable when isolated. Use conventional troops to protect the approach, scout Monks and anti-elephant units, and avoid investing in a large elephant mass before the economy and map control can sustain replacements.
Opening priorities
Use the freedom to build production and advance without the usual prerequisite buildings to keep the opening adaptable.
Core army
Battle Elephants, Ballista Elephants, and siege can combine into a strong push when resources support them.
Technology & transition
Use the economy and flexible building access to add Town Centers or military production without interrupting the plan.
Watch for
The open build order can tempt overspending; keep Villager production and food income ahead of expensive units.
